Invested in Community: Viewpoint Foundation Champions Buddy Up Campaign

Centre for Suicide Prevention is delighted to announce Viewpoint Foundation’s generous contribution of $100,000 a year for 3 years for our Buddy Up campaign. Viewpoint Foundation is the flagship funder of this critical initiative. This campaign needs Champions from all sectors to help spread the word that men’s suicide is preventable. Will you join Viewpoint in supporting this initiative?

Buddy Up is a men’s suicide prevention campaign; a call to action for men, by men to have authentic conversations by asking buddies, ‘How are you really doing?’ and supporting each other.
In Canada, men have a suicide rate three times higher than women. Why? We have socialized men to be strong, stoic, and self-reliant; showing emotion is a sign of weakness, as is asking for help. Further, men are underserved by our traditional health and social service sectors. Men are dying in alarming numbers, all around us, alone. We can change this reality.

Buddy Up is a campaign by the Centre for Suicide Prevention, informed by a majority-male advisory committee and vetted by all-male focus groups. With over 600 Champions across the globe – individuals and groups who promote the cause within their context – the campaign teaches men how to support their friends who may be struggling with thoughts of suicide in four simple steps.

June 2022 is Buddy Up month – anyone can participate in any way they’d like! Champions can spread awareness in their workplace, sports team, book club, or anywhere else they see fit.

With Viewpoint Foundation’s initial investment of $300,000 over the next three years, we are actively inviting partners to match, or add to, this contribution. Will your organization join forces with Viewpoint to ensure Buddy Up has sustained investment for three years?
