Invested in Community: Momentum and the Tech Plus Program

History teaches us that pandemics preface transformation. This time, the pandemic is part of a triple upheaval, combined with the urgent imperatives of the climate crisis and the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The chorus for change is sounding. There are strong growth prospects, but these are inextricably tied to jobs, skills, and equity in the return of business activity, according to the World Economic Forum.

For many people, skills training opportunities are fundamental to giving them the support they need to get back into the workforce. Organizations like Momentum, a non-profit based in Calgary, Alberta, are successfully doing just that. Working through a lens of community economic development, Momentum’s skilled staff aim to provide a foundation and support for every participant in their training programs.

Imagine for a moment...every person has a sustainable livelihood and contributes to their community. This is the vision that guides Momentum’s work.

Viewpoint is a proud supporter of Momentum and the impactful work they are doing in our community to get individuals back to work. In particular, we have chosen to fund the Tech Plus training program, an educational experience that fosters the personal growth and professional development of individuals looking to get a start in the tech industry.

With a focus on obtaining the tactical skills to accompany four industry recognized certifications, Tech Plus also provides a rounded and comprehensive approach to professional development. This program, like all others offered at Momentum, offers participants the opportunity to advance their skills in communication, time management, and networking, as well as providing many other practical life skills.

An additional element of this program is a fully integrated work experience in which participants are employed by a variety of innovative and industry-leading tech companies. Following the classroom portion of the program, this hands-on training is an opportunity for participants to not only apply their skills within the work environment, but it also provides a networking foundation for individuals to kickstart their career.

If you are interested in becoming a participant or are an employer looking to provide work experience placements, visit momentum.org for more information.
